The Seven Words - Part 4: “Forsaken”

Sermon Series: The Seven Words

Speaker: Pastor Bill Wilton

A Sermon On: Matthew 27:46

Theme:  The New Testament Gospels record seven different conversations or topics addressed by Jesus while he hung upon the cross dying.  In preparation for our celebration of Resurrection Day we will take a look at each of these seven sayings, these dying words of our Savior and seek to find meaning and direction for our lives as his disciples.

Part 4: “Forsaken” – Jesus was forsaken on the cross by the Father. He cried out, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” Of course, we know that he was forsaken for our sake.  As Paul revealed to the Church in Corinth, (2 Cor. 5:21) “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”
