The Seven Words - Part 1: "Forgive"

Sermon Series: The Seven Words
Speaker: Pastor Bill Wilton

A Sermon On: Luke 23:34

Theme:  The New Testament Gospels record seven different conversations or topics addressed by Jesus while he hung upon the cross dying.  In preparation for our celebration of Resurrection Day we will take a look at each of these seven sayings, these dying words, of our Savior and seek to find meaning and direction for our lives as his disciples.

Par1: Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do."

The Summary of the Law - "Summing it Up"

Sermon Series: Love God, Love Others, Follow Jesus

Speaker: Pastor Bill Wilton

A Sermon On: Matthew 22:34-40

Theme:  In the Old Testament the Hebrew people were called to obey the Commandments as their part in the Covenant that God made with them after their deliverance from Egypt.  How Should Christians hear these commandments in light of Jesus teachings and New Covenant promises?  Jesus’ response to the Pharisee who questioned him about which of the Commandments was the greatest sets up the perfect way for Christians to think about the 10 Commandments.

The 4th Commandment - "Give it a Rest"

Sermon Series: Love God, Love Others, Follow Jesus

Speaker: Pastor Bill Wilton

A Sermon On: Exodus 20:8-11

8 “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your animals, nor the alien within your gates. 11 For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

Theme:  In the Old Testament the Hebrew people were called to obey the Commandments as their part in the Covenant that God made with them after their deliverance from Egypt.  How Should Christians hear the 4th Commandment in light of Jesus teachings and atoning work on the cross?  Should Christians work on Sunday?  Should we go to Church on Saturday?  What are our 4th Commandment obligations.
